Classification of PHAY machines according to the principle of operation Part II

Types of Milling Machine

The milling machines are classified according to their orientation to their workpiece and level of motion.

Knee-Type

Knee-Type milling machinesemploy a vertical work space supported by a knee, which is a vertical molding product that can be adjusted. The knee supports a saddle and can be adjusted to allow for a custom workspace.

Horizontal and vertical plains

A milling machine with a standard working surface or can be oriented vertically or horizontally. The tooling assembly is usually mounted on a turret and rotated, usually parallel positioning to the work space. The turret and revolutions allow the tools to move freely around the workpiece to enforce strict tolerance.

Horizontal Milling Machine

Another horizontal milling machine differs from the plain horizontal type because it has a rotary table, allowing the table to move out 45 degrees from the standard horizontal position. This ingot movement allows for more milling or twisting operations.

Ram-Type and Universal Ram-Milling Machine

A ram-type machine is used to allow the tool to position itself on a larger range of spaces relative to the machining details. The ram-type machines have a spindle into a mobile housing, which can move in a horizontal plane. The ram-type milling machine includes a rotary house that increases the range of cutting motion.

Rotary Cutter Head Ram-Type Milling Machine

With a rotary cutter, a milling machine can rotate from a completely vertical position to a completely horizontal position. The desk also moves, providing the user with a very free movement and orientation. Many rotary cutters include automatic control settings or both, increasing operating options.
